# Troubleshoot recording on desktop (/docs/support/recording/desktop-app/troubleshoot-recording-on-desktop)

If you're not able to record with the desktop app, here are the most common reasons and how to fix them.

## Circleback doesn't have permissions

The Circleback app requires system level permissions to record your microphone, screen, and system audio. You can give Circleback these permissions through your system or browser settings.

### macOS

- Enable **Microphone** access for Circleback from System Settings
  - System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → turn on access for Circleback ([Control access to the microphone on Mac](https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/control-access-to-the-microphone-on-mac-mchla1b1e1fe/mac))
- Enable **Screen & System Audio Recording** for Circleback from System Settings
  - System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording → turn on access for Circleback ([Control access to screen and system audio recording on Mac](https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/control-access-screen-system-audio-recording-mchld6aa7d23/mac))

### Windows

- Enable **Microphone** permissions for Circleback from Settings ([Turn on app permissions for your microphone in Windows](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-on-app-permissions-for-your-microphone-in-windows-94991183-f69d-b4cf-4679-c98ca45f577a))
- Enable **Screenshots and screen recording** permissions for Circleback from Settings → Privacy & Security → Screenshots and screen recording
- Make sure that **Exclusive Mode** is turned off for your microphone by going to **Settings → System → Sound → More sound settings → Recording → select the microphone → Properties → Advanced → Exclusive Mode.**
